Canoe Trips Ontario, Canada

Canoe Route Information

Where Rivers Run North

The Chapleau District of Ontario, Canada forms the headwaters of three significant watersheds: the Lake Superior and Lake Huron, both of which eventually drain into the Atlantic Ocean, and the Arctic Watershed, the rivers flowing North into Hudson Bay.
Historically, crossing this great divide has signified leaving the civilized world, and entering into the wild hinterland. Today, it marks the source of adventure: 10 Provincial Parks, the Largest Game Preserve in the World, 3,000 miles of interconnected canoe routes,18,000 square miles of wilderness to explore.
Unlike popular canoeing areas like the Boundary Waters, Quetico, Algonquin, Allagash or Temagami, the Arctic Headwaters of the Chapleau District are not crowded or developed. This is, very much, the next step into the wilderness. On many routes, one can paddle for a week without encountering another paddler.

Two world-class reasons to paddle Ontario, Canada:
